Hello from The Hello Cup!
Let’s get to know each other.
Our New Zealander founders Mary Bond and Robyn McLean have been best friends since they were 11 years old (many, many moons ago – don’t ask how many).
Like any enterprising and ambitious two friends, they would regularly shoot the breeze about “the dream” – starting a business together.
But nothing that really “stuck”.
Having spent their lives using conventional tampons and sanitary pads, the Kiwi girls’ first experience with a menstrual cup was a game-changer.
No more running out of pads at the worst possible time, when that monthly visitor decides to drop by unannounced (rude).
No more soggy tampons ruining your plans (or clothes).
No more creating a proverbial mountain of waste each year, really, for no good reason.
However, it soon became obvious that there was a serious lack of quality menstrual cup products on the market. They were just too niche, not widely understood, and there was (understandably) a healthy amount of skepticism.
Mostly, people protesting, “But look at the size of that thing!”
Lightbulb moment.
Mary, a registered nurse, and Robyn, a journalist and marketer, put their bright minds together and developed a groundbreaking menstrual cup unlike any other.
The Hello Cup launched in 2017.
A simple, reusable, and extremely comfy menstrual cup made from legit medical-grade ingredients.
Designed specifically not to restrict or inhibit, staying secure and comfortable during your preferred choice of vigorous activity. Ideal for overachievers, just as great for couch potatoes.
Fully recyclable, hypoallergenic, and reusable for years – not hours.
Plus, far, far better for the environment. Did you know tampons and pads can take up to 500 years to break down?
Yep, that’s five hundred, with two zeros.
But, before you despair about the state of the planet, you should know that just one Hello Cup is equivalent to some 2000 single-use products.
Not bad, right?
Beyond sustainability, zero waste and all those good things, Hello Cups just feel clean. They’re super simple to use, and for a rapidly increasing number of loyalists, once you know how – you never go back.
If not especially comfortable, most people are at least pretty ingrained with their current methods of period management. We get it. They’ve been doing it almost their whole lives.
But, with The Hello Cup, we wanted to change the conversation, and let people with periods everywhere know that there is a better way.
More than selling a product, it’s about creating a community, welcoming new customers as friends and showing how menstrual cups can make a huge impact on quality of life.
For too long, menstruation has been something of a taboo. Somehow, despite being completely natural, and affecting literally half of the population – most people shy away from discussing it openly.
The Hello Cup became a way for us to share our voice and empower people to make informed decisions about their body and their rituals.
After all, every woman remembers their first period, and the emotions that came along with it... including, but not limited to: trauma, embarrassment, frustration, helplessness, and disbelief.
As moms of young girls, Robyn and Mary were determined to make their daughter’s experience a much more pleasant one.
And of course, as their harshest critics – if they could win over their kids, they could win over anyone.
The menstrual cup movement is now changing the lives of people across the globe, with the award-winning Hello Cup leading the charge.
To date, we’ve saved more than 200,000,000 single-use products from ending up in landfill, with the most comfortable menstrual cup on the market.
Why not find out for yourself?
